So, last year Heinz ran a promotion that involved a QR code on its ketchup bottles that brought folks to a promotional website. The promotion ended and Heinz let the domain expire. No harm, no foul, eh?
Well, it appears that when Heinz let that domain expire an enterprising porn company in Germany got its grubby paws on it, leading an unsuspecting German man, a year later, to see more wieners than he bargained for when he set out to ketchup-up his frankfurter.
Lesson here, Heinz? Do your damndest to make sure those QR coded bottles of 57 are 86'd before you let that domain expire, or the Jack Horners of the world will cyber-squat all over that thing!
I mean, doesn't Heinz understand the shelf life of its own product? Whatever gamma rays they pump into that stuff make a bottle last two years unopened and one year, if it's opened! So, in the future, they best be hanging on to those domains for at least that long.
