To say that Hunter S. Thompson was a bit of an eccentric figure is putting it lightly. The Godfather of "gonzo journalism" was a brilliant writer and attributed this, partly, to his vices. "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me," Thompson said.
His eccentricities certainly came through in his writing, but whether it's his writing or his public or private persona, his, seemingly, mundane interaction with a Colorado audio/video company reveals that Hunter was always Hunter. In classic Hunter fashion, he calls customer service to complain that "some asshole came and scrambled all my wiring" and they damn well better fix it or he'll "ruin [their] fuckin' name!".
The beauty of the interaction is he was, actually, calling the wrong A/V company, but his threat was so convincing they fixed it for him anyway.
All I can say is praise Zeus that this was recorded on voicemail. Now, I'm inspired. Look out, Charter!
